Green: Let’s get off to a flyer at Gloucester
The lock-forward formed part of the side which lost 14-13 at home to Leicester Tigers last weekend, saying: “We said against Leicester that we had to fly in for the first 10 to 15 minutes to really set the tone, and the same applies down at Gloucester.
“You can’t dawdle into games at this level and take 25 minutes to find your rhythm. If you do that you are going to be points behind, and it is important to do the same this weekend.
“We were probably the better team against Leicester, we had chances to score and we didn’t take enough of them. We need to be a bit smarter in games, it almost happened in our game against Sale as well and we can’t afford to bring trouble onto ourselves.”
Relishing the noise his side will face in the West Country, Green added: “Kingsholm is one of those great atmospheres in rugby, and it’s something the boys look forward to.
“A lot has been said about our away record but we’re confident going down there. If we do our jobs and apply ourselves as well as we can then we can turn anyone over. It will be tough because Gloucester are a good side, but it’s a challenge we can meet.”
Keen to improve his side’s form away from the North East, the Norfolk native said: “We enjoy playing at home. We have a great stadium and our fans are amazing, but we have to maybe do something a little bit different when we go away. The management are addressing that and we have changed our travel plans for this weekend. Our preparation is being done a little bit differently, so hopefully it can play a part in a good performance and a positive result.”
Aware of the threat posed by the Cherry and Whites, he added: “Gloucester are a physical side, but you could say the same about anyone in the Aviva Premiership. Sale, Bath and Leicester have all been physical, and you just take that as a given in a league as good as this.
“Most teams have got a good scrum, a good driving line-out, ferocious tacklers and top-class contact skills. We know we have to be right on our money to beat sides, but we aren’t shying away from that. We are going down to Gloucester not to just match them, but to be better than them.”
