Hammersley extends time at Kingston Park
Falcons fullback Simon Hammersley will remain a part of the Newcastle Falcons set up for the 2015/2016 season following an impressive debut campaign for the North East club.
Initially signing on a senior academy contract, the 21 year old’s impressive performances have earned him a switch to a first team professional contract.
He has now agreed a further extension to his stay at the club until June 2016 on a full time basis.
For the Durham University graduate, it is a welcome reward and one that affords him the opportunity to continue to make a name for himself in the Aviva Premiership.
Hammersley said: “It’s really good to have the chance to stay on next season and it’s nice that we managed to get it all nailed down and sorted early.”
“This season has been so far and beyond what I could have hoped for and I certainly didn’t expect to get anywhere near the amount of opportunities I have had in terms of game time so it has all been a very positive experience.”
“Next year I will be trying to continue in the same vein to make sure I’m not a one season hit and can build on what I’ve achieved this season.”
Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards said: “Simon has delivered on the promise the club saw in him while he was at Durham University and part of the A team and he has competed well with Alex Tait for the 15 shirt throughout the season.”
“He is still young and has some work to do to become the complete article. I have no doubts though that he will prove up to that task and will continue to be a valuable member of our squad moving forward.”
