Historic Falcons Game “A Great Process” For Georgia
The Georgian national rugby side were given a tough start to their World Cup warm-up campaign on Friday night when the side ranked inside the world’s top 15 national sides fell to a 27-7 defeat against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park Stadium.
Playing their first ever game against an Aviva Premiership side, a powerful Georgian side succumbed to five Falcons tries.
Speaking after the game, Georgia Head Coach Milton Haig said: “It was a great process. After a three camp training period you still need to play rugby and we played a good side so it was great for us.
“It’s been great coming up here; for a lot of the guys it’s the first time in Newcastle and for Georgia it’s the first time we’ve played a Premiership side.”
The New Zealander continued: “We wanted to give everyone a bit of a run and have worked a couple of different combinations so this is part of the process. We certainly need to keep on improving as we participate going into the World Cup.”
Speaking of his adopted homeland, Haig also explained the need for additional blankets on the substitues’ bench after his team found the North East climate a shock to the system! “Back home it’s about 30 degrees at the moment so we’re all struggling a bit with the weather here!”
The Lelos will now place Canada and Japan over the coming week as they continue their preparation for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
