Last Friday’s game saw Newcastle Falcons lose a vital member of the club to injury when Flash the Falcon had to be helped off the pitch.

Flash, a long-time servant of the club, took a tumble during the half-time mascot race at Friday’s Aviva Premiership Season Opener, with many unsure when he would return to Kingston Park Stadium.

The club can now confirm that Flash has had to undergo surgery as a result of his injury but is expected to recover quickly and be back in action in time for the Falcons’ next Aviva Premiership home match against Exeter Chiefs on Sunday 1st November.

Gavin Beasley, one of those who escorted Flash from the pitch said: “It was definitely touch and go for a while, we were worried Flash would be out long-term, but it sounds as though his surgery went well and he’s told us he feels like a new bird, so we’re looking forward to welcoming him back for the game against Exeter.”
