Jamie Blamire to join Leicester Tigers
Newcastle Falcons hooker Jamie Blamire will join Leicester Tigers at the end of the season.
The 27-year-old Cumbrian came through the Falcons’ academy and has made 129 first team appearances, earning full England honours during his time in the North East.
Director of rugby Steve Diamond said: “Jamie has been an outstanding player for us and we wish him all the best at Leicester.
“He is someone who will always be welcome here at Newcastle, he has given a huge amount to this club and I sincerely hope he is able to take the step back up into international rugby that his form deserves.
“In the meantime he is fully committed to finishing the season strongly with Newcastle, and I’ve got absolutely no doubt that he will remain a key figure for us during the next couple of games.”
Blamire said: “I joined Newcastle Falcons when I was 16, and I’ll forever be thankful to Mark Laycock and Jimmy Ponton for seeing something in me and giving me that first shot. Without them, none of this would’ve been possible.
“The Falcons have been more than a club. I’ve grown up here and made friendships that will last a lifetime.
“Wearing the Falcons jersey has been an honour and a privilege. This place and these people have shaped me, both on and off the field.
“I’ve loved every minute of representing the club, but I feel it’s the right time for me to move on.
“Thank you to everyone who’s been part of the journey.”
