Ladies Take Centre Stage This Sunday
This Sunday Kingston Park Stadium will host a huge game of ladies rugby when women’s Premiership side DMP Sharks take on Lichfield.
Newcastle Falcons are thrilled to welcome both teams, and would like to extend a particular welcome to World Cup winner Tamara Taylor, a great role model for the women’s game, who will be running out for the Sharks.
Women’s rugby continues to grow across the North East thanks to great support from grassroots clubs and new and established teams.
However Newcastle Falcons, through the Falcons Community Foundation, continue to work towards increased involvement with rugby for women, with specialist camps and teacher education sessions having already run over the past year as part of the Foundation’s Rugby 4 All programme.
Local girls’ teams are regularly invited to head along to Kingston Park Stadium to watch or participate in pre-match parades, curtain raiser games and the Falcons’ Guard of Honour initiative. Next Sunday offers a great opening to the season and to the club’s plans to further build upon women’s rugby within the region.
Tamara Taylor, Community rugby coach, DMP Sharks and England player said:
“With England women winning the World Cup just over 12 months ago, and the men’s World Cup literally right on our doorstep, it’s an exciting time for rugby in England.
“This fixture is the first time the North’s only Premiership men’s and Women’s teams will play on the same day, and at the same venue, which is a fantastic opportunity to continue the rugby legacy from both world cups.
“We hope people will take advantage of the chance to watch two games for the price of one, and cheer on the two Premiership rugby teams in the North East.
“Massive thanks to Newcastle Falcons for helping make this possible.”
George Roberts, DMP Sharks Captain said: “We’re very excited and honoured to have the opportunity to play at Kingston Park, especially as we will be curtain raising for the Falcons.
“It’s a top quality facility where many rugby legends have developed. We hope to showcase the women’s game and then soak up the fantastic atmosphere afterwards.”
DMP Sharks vs Lichfield kicks off at 11.45am next Sunday at Kingston Park Stadium, with the Falcons vs Sale Sharks game taking place at 3pm the same day.
Tickets for the two games are available to buy now [online][1], in person from the Kingston Park Stadium Box Office or by calling the Falcons’ 24 hour Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060.
