Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup a success
Held at Kingston Park and the adjacent Bullocksteads ground on the day of The Big One at St James’ Park, the Land Rover Cup is part of a series of nationwide events which provide aspiring young players the opportunity to play in a competitive event and meet professional players from Newcastle Falcons.
Clubs from Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria, the Borders, Yorkshire and a few from further afield took part, each team playing an hour of rugby across 20 pitches.
One team from each age group received a trip to the Gallagher Premiership Rugby final at Twickenham on June 1 where they will meet a Land Rover rugby ambassador, join in a Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup Parade at half-time and hear which of them has been named as Land Rover Junior Discovery of the Season.
The teams presented with the prize at half time at The Big One were Durham City Under-12s and Whitley Bay Rockcliff Under-11s.
Young Rugby ambassadors from Northumberland and Durham were involved in the day refereeing games, pitch marshalling making sure the day ran to time.
