Young, 19, and his fellow Scotland Under-20s teammates will take on rugby super powers South Africa, Samoa and New Zealand in their pool matches on the 2, 6 and 10 June respectively.

And academy chief Laycock is delighted for the Jedburgh-born lock, who featured against Saracens at Allianz Park in the LV= Cup this term.

“I’m delighted for Glen and I’m sure he will do very well for Scotland,” said Laycock.

“The experience of going to New Zealand on tour will be greatly beneficial for Glen’s development as a rugby player.

“Both Dom Barrow and Scott Wilson won the tournament with England last summer and you only have to see them in action this season to realise the impact that the experience had on them.

“Everyone at Newcastle Falcons wishes Glen well,” added the Teesside coach.
