Laycock joined the Falcons academy coaching staff in 2006 and worked alongside current England Under-18s head coach John Fletcher before moving to the position of academy manager in 2012. After impressing director of rugby Dean Richards, Laycock took up the role of club skills coach in 2015.

The level-four coach will be joined on the England-U19s management team by England player pathway coach Peter Walton for the away match on Saturday April 1, with the venue to be confirmed.

The squad will be a mixture of players currently in the England U18-U20 squads and those looking to impress ahead of the World Rugby Under-20s Championship, which starts in May.

Laycock said: “I’m delighted to have been given this opportunity and hopefully I will play a part in helping to achieve the goals set for this game. Peter Walton and John Fletcher have given me a good insight into the environment with England, so I’m really looking forward to it.”

The appointment is a result of the new Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Premiership Rugby Limited agreement, which will see talented club coaches gain experience in an international environment.

Dean Ryan, head of international player development at the RFU, said: “This is a fantastic chance for Mark in his development as a coach to gain experience at international level. The fixture also represents a great opportunity for a wider group of players to gain the experience of an international environment in new surroundings.”
