Mark Tampin signs new contract with Falcons
The tight-head has made 66 appearances for the club since joining from Ealing Trailfinders in the summer of 2019, having previously played for Leeds, Rotherham and Jersey.
Tampin, who turns 31 later this month, has featured 13 times for the Falcons this season, saying: “It was an easy decision to agree the new contract.
“I’ve enjoyed being at the club since I came here three and a half years ago, I love living in the area and it’s just a no-brainer for me in terms of extending that stay.
“It’s a great environment to be in at the Falcons, I’ve been involved quite a lot and I feel like improving as a player. I’m also coaching down at Tynedale, which I enjoy, and I’m happy here.
“I came here as a Championship player and there was inevitably a period of adjustment, but on the back of that I feel like I’ve pushed on continued to learn with the players and coaches we have here at the club.”
Newcastle Falcons head coach Dave Walder said: “Tamps has improved loads during his time with us and really embraced being in this environment.
“He’s basically gone from being a Championship prop to being a Premiership prop, through his own hard work and taking on the advice of people here at the club.
“As well as his rugby ability he’s a really good presence around the camp in terms of driving the culture and bringing everyone together, so it’s great that he will be remaining with us for at least another couple of seasons.”
Newcastle Falcons’ next home game is on Saturday January 21 when they host Irish province Connacht in the EPCR Challenge Cup.
