n emphatic first half-an-hour saw the Falcons run in four unanswered tries to seal the bonus-point and move the Falcons 25 points clear at the summit of the Championship table.

“To score the tries as early on as we did meant that we were able to build up a healthy advantage which helped us,” added the Newcastle chief.

Two tries on the brink of half-time got the Titans well and truly back in the contest with a second 40 still to come. Restricting the Falcons to two shots at goal in the second-half, Richards paid tribute to a dogged Rotherham outfit.

He said: “I thought Rotherham performed well throughout the game, and we knew beforehand that it was going to be a hard game, and we would have to be at our best to beat them.

“There are potential banana skins in this league, and you would have to include Rotherham as one of them.”

The Falcons continue their RFU Championship quest this Friday as they welcome Bedford Blues to Kingston Park. Tickets are still available for the game by calling the Falcons Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060 or click here to purchase online.
