MAYHEW RELISHING WASPS TEST

Monday 28 April 2014 Written by: Adam

The Falcons need just one more point from their remaining two matches to guarantee their top-flight status. And the 28-year-old Kiwi, who made his 50th appearance against Saracens over a week ago, believes his side are due a big performance.

“We have a fantastic group of players and there is no lack of endeavour on our part,” said Mayhew.

“A few things have not gone our way and there are tough teams throughout a quality competition like the Premiership, but if we keep knuckling down we know the performances will come,” he added.

Mayhew joined the Falcons in the summer of 2011 and has grown in stature to become a firm fan favourite amongst the Kingston Park faithful.

Mayhew said: “Fifty games is a nice mile-stone to have – I have had injuries during my time here which have probably set it back a bit, but I have enjoyed those three years.

“The North East is a great place to live and I love it – you have got the beaches, the countryside and the people are really friendly, but most importantly there is a great bunch of guys at the club who have a lot of endeavour.

“I will always give 100% for the club every time I put the Falcons jersey on. The Aviva Premiership is an extremely tough competition but if we continue to work hard the performances and results will come.”
