Mew steps up in Kingston Park fundraiser
The pair will spend three painful days hauling themselves up 60,060 West Stand steps – the equivalent of going from sea level to the summit of Mount Everest.
And is if that wasn’t hard enough, John will be carrying a 25lb bergen.
Raising funds for My Name’5 Doddie and the Newcastle Rugby Foundation, the challenge takes place on August 20-22, subject to government restrictions allowing it at that time.

It is not the first time John Mew has helped raise funds and awareness for good causes, Newcastle Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards saying: “I first met John through his connection with the Newcastle Rugby Foundation, with whom he has been closely linked for a number of years.
“He spoke very candidly at our end-of-season awards dinner a few years back about the help he has received with his mental health following his time in the forces, and was keen to raise funds and awareness for those who had assisted him.
“He did this through a number of charitable walks and climbs, and became a familiar sight to all of us at Kingston Park Stadium during his training for these events.
“Through getting to know John I have also helped to support his charity walks through simple things like offering food and accommodation when they came through my local area – joining him on parts of the route.
“It has been great to see the enthusiasm and selflessness which underpins all of his good work, and I know his efforts will be appreciated by the charities concerned.”
