‘More to come’ says Deano after scrappy win

A try by Johnny Williams and the boot of Toby Flood was enough to win a scrappy Gallagher Premiership encounter at Kingston Park Stadium, Richards saying: “It was a bit of an arm-wrestle all the way through.

“We gave away some silly penalties which cost us territory but once we tidied that up we controlled the game pretty well, although we lacked a little accuracy in attack.

“A couple of times we got within five or six metres of the posts and fluffed our lines a bit, which cost us dear, but we ground it out.”

The former England and Lions No 8 added: “We’d looked at their defence and found a couple of areas we could exploit, then with Tom Homer and Freddie Burns going off so early it was always going to be difficult for them. They became unstructured, as you’d expect, and we had a go, which is ultimately why we got the result.

“It’s disappointing that we’re not playing with the fluidity we know we’re capable of, and we’d be scoring a lot more tries if we did.

“We have our international boys coming back which will obviously help, but it was still great to get the win. The frustrating thing is the fact we know we’re capable of so much more, but that will come.”
