New re-fit for Kingston Park East Stand Bar
Newcastle Falcons today announced plans to re-open the East Stand Bar formerly known as The Hiding Place. The bar was closed two years ago but will re-open seven days a week with a new name, a complete new re-fit and a new emphasis on who it will aim to attract.
The re-fit, being run by Newcastle based design and build specialists Monument survey – Design – Build Ltd, commences immediately. It is anticipated that the work will take around three and a half weeks and be complete for the first Newcastle Thunder home League game on Good Friday, 3rd April.
The new bar design will feature both clubs – Falcons and Thunder – throughout whilst combining it with a contemporary and welcoming new look and feel. It will aim to attract rugby fans whilst also appealing to the local community. The bar does not have a name yet and Falcons supporters, Thunder fans and the local community are being asked via a competition to come up with a suitable entry.
Due to the tight turnaround supporters are asked to have their entry in via Facebook or twitter by 5.00pm on Friday 13th March. Supporters can also email entries to fans@newcastle-falcons.co.uk. The club are looking for a name that recognises the fact the bar is a seven days a week bar and if possible references the fact that it is part of a rugby club. The winner will receive a signed shirt, two free drinks a game for the 2015-16 season and be part of the official unveiling ceremony in early April.

“It’s tremendous news that we are pressing ahead with the re-fit of the East Stand Bar. The proposed new look will give a place that is welcoming, contemporary but also recognises the fact that is part of a rugby club.
We will be serving light bites throughout the day, a full coffee offering as well as the usual quality drinks offering from our pouring partner Heineken. The bar will be the place to come for rugby fans who want to watch live games with both BT Sport and Sky Sports available. As well as catering for rugby fans we hope it will also become a pleasant, attractive option for the local community be it families, Falcons and Thunder players and staff, people meeting for business or parents to and from the school run.
“The last thing that remains to be decided is the name. I’m sure we will get a lot of great entries from both the Falcons and Thunder fans.”
