Newcastle Falcons v Gloucester United – Team News
Academy Manager Mark Laycock has named a strong side to face Gloucester United tonight at Kingston Park in the Aviva A League as he and academy head coach look to continue their winning start to the season.
The Falcons A team have recorded three wins from three in this year’s competition and a win against the West Country side this evening would go a long way to securing a spot in the knock out rounds of the tournament.
Full internationals Eric Fry, Mike Blair and Jamie Helleur will join fellow first team regulars Oliver Tomaszcyck, Richard Mayhew and Noah Cato in the starting line-up, while the next generation of Falcons stars are also represented with Will Witty, Tom Penny and Sean Brown amongst those that are part of the match-day 23. Andy Saull will once again lead the team as captain.
Mark Laycock said: “Gloucester are a very dangerous side and will be a huge challenge for our lads. They have played two games so far this season and both have been very high scoring so we will be in for a test of our defence this evening.”
“We’ve been strong over the last couple of weeks, and I’ve no doubt we will created plenty of chances in the game as we have some real quality in the squad. I’ll be asking the lads to front up in the contact area and to keep building on the good things we have been doing in the last three weeks.”
Kick off in tonight’s A League fixture is 7pm with all supporters welcome to attend for free. Spectators will be accommodated in the East side of the stadium, with both the terrace and stand open on an unreserved basis.
The first floor clubhouse bar will be open serving refreshments and the club hopes all those who are able to, will come and enjoy the match.
