Newcastle Mela to host Falcons Community Foundation
The Newcastle Rugby Foundation will be at Exhibition Park over the August Bank Holiday weekend, as its coaches and staff join the 2017 Newcastle Mela.
A free celebration of Pakistani, Bengali, Indian and other South Asian cultures, the Mela takes place from 12pm – 8pm on Sunday and Monday with a wide array of music, both contemporary and traditions, art, food and dance.
In addition to entertaining and appealing to crowds of all ages and races, the Newcastle Mela also raises funds for a nominated charity, with 2017 seeing the Newcastle Rugby Foundation named as this year’s beneficiary.
Enjoying this status will see coaches from the Foundation present on both days to embrace the Mela’s ethos of allowing people to learn more and meet new people by showcasing the North East’s only Aviva Premiership Rugby club and the wider game.
In attendance with the Foundation’s ever popular inflatable kick for goal game, the coaches will be able to offer members of the crowd the chance to test their skills and increase their interest in the sport
Head of Foundation Melanie Magee said: “We are over the moon with the Foundation’s new relationship with the Newcastle Mela. We have worked for years to bring rugby to new communities which a fantastic event like the Mela allows us to do.
“I’d like to thank the organisers of the Mela for their huge support not only for the delivery of our activity but for enabling us to fundraise during the day. We look forward to seeing as many faces, new and old over the course of what promises to be a fantastic two days.”
