3G synthetic surface ready for first match against Rotherham on August 23rd

The countdown to the new Aviva Premiership Rugby season gathered pace today as SIS Pitches officially completed the construction of the Newcastle Falcons new 3G synthetic playing surface, with the Maryport based firm officially handing over the pitch to the club this morning,

After a summer long installation process, the new surface will provide a more consistent surface throughout the year whereas the previous turf pitch suffered through inclement weather and drainage issues.

With work officially finished, the coaches and squad wasted no time in getting acquainted with the pitch, holding a training session on it this morning, allowing the players to familiarise themselves with the 3G surface.

At the end of the session the players and coaches all expressed good first impressions of the pitch.

Defence coach Graham Steadman said: “Everyone has been really looking forward to actually getting to use the new pitch and they all came off really happy when we had a light run out on it on Wednesday.”

“There has been a lot of attention on it over the summer from outside the club and we’ve done a lot of talking about the new surface and about what we were going to expect from it. To finally experience it was an important point of pre-season.”

“The boys have responded positively to the artificial pitch and the consensus in the changing room is that the squad can’t wait to get a game on it.”

George Mullan CEO at SIS Pitches said: “SIS were delighted to be selected to provide the new synthetic surface for Newcastle Falcons, this is our second pitch for a Premiership team and we look forward to working with the club and the players on the new surface”

The first opportunity to play on the new surface will come on August 23rd against Rotherham Titans with kick off at 3pm.

Entry is free to 2014/2015 season ticket holders, who can expect their season cards to begin landing over the course of the weekend, while match tickets cost £10 for adult and £5 for under 16s and can be purchased by clicking here or calling 0871 2266060.
