Orr looks to build on 7s exploits
After winning their Kingston Park qualifier the previous weekend the Falcons fell to both Ospreys and Harlequins on Sunday in Coventry, Orr saying: “Even with the disappointment of losing both games in the finals we feel like it has been a worthwhile competition.
“On the fitness side it has been great, and the boys have got into some good full-contact stuff. We are where we want to be fitness-wise and we will keep on working on the rest of our game.”
Lamenting his side’s pair of defeats at the Ricoh Arena, the Aussie back-rower added: “We were pretty disappointed with how we went.
“We started poorly in the Plate semi-final with Harlequins. There were some good individual performances from guys like Adam Radwan, but overall we didn’t perform as we know we can.
“In the Cup quarter-final with Ospreys we started pretty well and had the first try to our name, but we made a few lapses with things like our communication in defence.”
Now looking to translate his sevens endeavours into the 15-a-side game, Orr said: “In terms of the 15s stuff the boys enjoyed a positive start scoring 50 points against Nottingham on Saturday, there were good signs in that game and we are just excited now to get into the season.
“We are a team who like to move the ball around and play with lots of flair – the boys are looking strong in pre-season and shaping up well.”
Newcastle Falcons are next in action on Saturday when they host Greene King IPA Championship finalists Doncaster Knights in a 3pm kick-off at Kingston Park Stadium.
