Peak Performance tames Mountains Challenge

Newcastle Falcons Academy’s Mark Laycock and James Ponton were joined by members of the club’s commercial staff and volunteers on their latest gruelling fundraising challenge at the start of June, as they attempted the Three Peaks Challenge.

Following the pair’s successful running of the Coast to Coast route in under 24 hours in 2013, this year’s challenge saw a team of nine conquer Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Mount Snowdon in the same timescale, to raise funds for the Falcons Community Foundation and Comic Relief.

Ably piloted to their destinations by Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards the intrepid adventurers began their quest at 6pm taking on the UK’s highest mountain, before making their way to the Lake District for an early morning climb of Scarfell.

Completing the challenge with 20 minutes to spare, the group were thankful of the support of Weetabix and Berghaus for the prevision of clothing, kit and nutritional supplements to help them complete their task.

With the challenge now complete, the group’s mydonate fundraising page remains open for donations to benefit the two worthwhile causes.
