Player Blitz grassroots clubs
Newcastle Falcons players have been out in force at local grassroots clubs over the past week as part of the latest engagements as part of the Club Connections programme.
A scheme launched by the Newcastle Falcons Community Foundation at the beginning of the 2014/2015 season, Club Connections aims to strengthen links between clubs across Northumberland, Durham, Cumbria, North Yorkshire and the borders.
The scheme brings many benefits to local clubs on top of player visits including discounted match tickets, access to pre match festivals, signed shirts, tickets to raise funds, coaching clinics, club shirt displayed in the West stand are just examples of some of the benefits to clubs each season.
The blitz took players across Cumbria, Durham and Northumbria on Sunday and Tuesday for visits that involved the junior sections at Alnwick, Blaydon, Gateshead, Kendal, Middlesbrough and Seghill rugby clubs, as other sessions were disrupted by the weather.
Across the visits, the players ran a range of drills such including Mike Delany working on kicking technique with Blaydon under 10s.
The young players were honing their skills ahead of their conversion-a-thon kicking competition to help raise funds for an upcoming tour.
At Seghill, the focus was on improving their breakdown work ahead of their upcoming DN3 league game against Sedgefield, while at all events, the Falcons players gave tips, signed autographs and posed for photos.
Taking place after the Aviva Premiership win over Leicester Tigers, the chance was taken by players, parents and supporters to talk about that success and this weekend’s upcoming game against Northampton Saints.
