Player Blitz Hits 30 Clubs

As community clubs across the region get into their season, Newcastle Falcons and the Falcons Community Foundation have run their annual Player Blitz event.

The event saw 40 players from the Falcons’ first team and Senior Academy head out to 20 clubs across the North East and Cumbria to run coaching sessions for all ages.

Clubs were given the option to choose a backs or forwards-specific session or more generic coaching sessions with the Falcons’ players.

Falcons representatives were also on hand to invite players and coaches from participating clubs along to the upcoming Falcons Legends game this October and to the club’s first Aviva Premiership game of the season against Gloucester on 16th October.

Speaking after his club’s session Blaydon RFC’s Andy Lane said: “There was a buzz of expectancy around and just by having the presence of Falcons players on site it really helped focus the minds of the kids.

“Your players were a credit to the club and they have had a real positive effect on some of our youth as the post-training chat proved.”

The event saw Falcons first team and Senior Academy players travel to clubs as far spread from as close by as Medicals RUFC in Heaton to as far away as Penrith, with many others along the way.

Player Blitz is just one of the benefits of the Falcons’ Club Connections programme, a scheme which offers community rugby clubs the opportunity to develop ties and work more closely with Newcastle Falcons and benefit from a range of coaching, development and promotional opportunities.
