PORT OF TYNE FESTIVAL A HIT WITH YOUNGSTERS
The bulk of the participants came from our schools programme sponsored by Port of Tyne which ran in the South Shields area throughout the course of last term. We also had local schools and travelling teams from Edinburgh involved in the rugby fun.
The morning saw a series of fantastic games of tag rugby between year’s three, four, five and six school teams. Despite the fog, the kids had a full morning of rugby games refereed by our Falcons Community Coaches, who engaged in further coaching whilst the kids played to maximise the experience.
Newcastle Falcons players Alex Crockett and James Hallam were on site to take some photos with the excitable youngsters and hand out some advice on converting tag skills into full rugby games. Flash the falcon was also present to promote the clash v Worcester which all of the children received the opportunity to watch free of charge. Gillian Scott attended the festival representing the Port of Tyne Community Action Fund panel. Speaking of the festival, Gillian said, “It was wonderful to see the children having so much fun and to see how the funding from the Port of Tyne Community Action Fund was used. Hopefully we’ll see some future England players from it!”
After the game the participants attended the Falcons v Worcester game and winners of each age group were invited onto the pitch to play a half-time game in front of the crowd. The Port of Tyne schools also received a free set of tags to continue their coaching and playing in school. Thank you to all schools who participated and congratulations to all the kids involved.
We look forward to seeing them at another game very soon.
