POWELL RELISHING THE ‘TOON’
The former Saracens centre talked life in Jesmond, favourite dinning hotspots and his future ambitions with the North East club when Falcons TV caught up with him yesterday.
Powell, 26, who dotted the I’s and crossed the T’s on a move to Kingston Park last month, admits he is relishing his new life in the ‘Toon.’
“I’m really enjoying it so far up here, everyone has made me feel welcome and I’m starting to get my bearings as to where I am now,” Powell told **Falcons TV**.
“On the rugby side of things I’m already starting to fit in to the team nicely,” added the Ex-England Saxon, who starts against Nottingham tomorrow night.
Living in the trendy suburban hub of Jesmond with Falcons winger and former Sarries teammate Noah Cato, Powell said: “Jesmond is a pretty cool place to live, and I’ve found a couple of nice places to get something to eat.
“Noah and I have been doing the tour of Newcastle to find out where the best places are to relax, shop and eat out, and I’m really enjoying my time up here, albeit it’s only been a few weeks.”
Making the switch from one winning team to another, the Essex-born midfield man believes the northeasterners can go the full campaign unbeaten, but insists his side must be at their best as the games get harder.
“Jersey played really well against us, certainly in the second-half when they scored a nice try,” Powell said of the Good Friday encounter.
“I think that was mainly down to us with a lack of urgency, and our physicality wasn’t quite there and if you don’t bring that physicality to a rugby game then you’re asking for trouble.
“Thankfully in the second-half we re-grouped and played a lot better and scored some tries, and our defence was a lot better,” added Powell.
Looking ahead to the Nottingham showdown which sees tickets slashed to £10 adults and £5 kids, Powell is expecting a difficult contest, saying: “It was very tough game against them at their place two-weeks-ago, and they made the game very difficult for us.
“For us it’s about getting our things right, and if we can control the game with our physicality and control the game, we should put on a good display for the fans.”
