Premiership Preview – Saracens
Reigning Aviva Premiership champions Saracens are the visitors to Kingston Park this afternoon riding high both domestically and in Europe after enjoying an unbeaten start to the season.
Their current position at the top of both the Aviva Premiership Rugby table and Pool 1 in the European Rugby Champions Cup has seen them continue where the left off at the end of last season as the team to beat.
Their 100% start to the new Aviva Premiership season has seen the Men in Black brush aside the challenges of Sale, London Irish and Worcester Warriors and dog out gritty results against Gloucester and Northampton Saints away from the home comforts of Allianz Park.
In the European fortnight, Saracens welcomed Stade Toulousain to Allianz Park to kick-off Pool 1. It was a game that took place in somewhat sombre circumstances in the aftermath of the Paris attacks a day before the game.
Sarries were in the grove that night, with England stars Owen Farrell and Brad Barritt both impressing in their 32-7 win over the four-time European Cup winners.
USA Rugby World Cup captain Chris Wyles crossed for two tries in the game with Mako Vunipola powering over for the other score.
After reaching the final four of Europe’s premier competition last season, Saracens will once again be hoping to make their mark this term and took a huge step to underlining the credentials as serious challengers, with their fine away win in Belfast over Ulster in round two.
In the last Aviva Premiership encounter played at Kingston Park, a pulsating match saw the Falcons run Sarries all the way in a 23-25 reverse in front of a six year high crowd of 9,192.
Marking the league debut for Chris Harris, who bagged two tries including the 80th minute score that set up the grandstand finish, it was yet another game against Saracens that ended with a one score difference between the teams.
Tickets remain available for Sunday’s game, starting at £15 for adults and £5.50 for under 16s if booked by 12 Noon on matchday.
