Premiership Preview – Worcester
The glare of the Friday Night lights and BT Sport’s cameras will be focused on Kingston Park again this weekend, as Newcastle Falcons welcome Dean Ryan’s Worcester Warriors to the North East for round 15 of the Aviva Premiership.
The Warriors head for the meeting having rediscovered their winning formula in their last home game against Sale Sharks and will undoubtedly targeting the match as a must win as they look to put distance between themselves and twelfth placed London Irish.
The Falcons head into the match on a fine run of form at Kingston Park and will be equally determined to extend their home strike rate to seven wins from seven matches in all competitions.
Should they achieve that feat, Dean Richards side will take a further step towards closing down ninth placed Bath Rugby and a congested Aviva Premiership midfield.
With both sides strengthened since their meeting in round four, some quality players are due to be on show at Kingston Park, in what historically has been a tight head to head.
Newcastle’s biggest win against Warriors came the first time the two sides meet in the Premiership in September 2004 when tries from Mark Mayhofler, Stuart Grimes and Mike McCarthy gave the Falcons a 9-30 win.
