Richards hails flying Falcons
The Gallagher Premiership clash at Kingston Park Stadium saw a rampant Falcons side claiming the full five points, Richards saying: “We’ve won our last three home games, we’re very proud of that and what a way to do it.
“We scored two great tries through Adam Radwan – I don’t think there are many other people in England who could have finished those – a fantastic 25-metre driving maul and then a wonderful try from Sean Robinson.
“We felt like we had a point to prove in a way because everyone has been looking at last week and asking why we picked the team we did against Exeter. Well, today is why.
“We wanted the boys to be fresh for today, and they were. That first 35 minutes was probably the best rugby we’ve played all season, and I was really pleased by that.”
The Falcons boss added: “We’d identified some areas in Worcester’s defence, set up some plays to exploit it and they came off. It’s always pleasing when that happens, but let’s not hide from the fact that we dropped off towards the end.
“I have to look at myself and ask whether I brought on the replacements at the right time, and maybe that was my fault. I’ll be honest enough to ask those questions during the analysis, but we’ve got a big game at Harlequins next weekend and I wanted to try and look after some of the boys a bit.”
Asked by the media about the growing claims for an England call-up for Adam Radwan, Richards replied: “Radders is obviously going to grab the headlines with the two tries he scored, but I thought Callum Chick, Will Welch and Sean Robinson were all outstanding as well. Greg Peterson had another big game, and to be fair they all played well.
“It was a team performance, and overall I was happy. We had our fans in again and the atmosphere was great, and we’ve ended with three home wins in a row.
“We have a big prize to go for in terms of trying to secure Champions Cup rugby next week down at Harlequins, and we’ll be going down there to give it a good go.”
