Richards happy with solid work-out against Doncaster
Leading the Championship finalists 19-7 at half-time and adding a further two tries after the break, Richards said: “It was a decent work-out.
“We knew Doncaster were going to be a big lumpy side, they threw lots of people into almost every situation and the first 40 minutes was always going to be key. We had to keep our form, our shape and edge ahead, which is exactly what we did in the end.”
Using a total of 29 players on the day, the Falcons’ boss added: “We made a lot of changes at half-time which upset the apple cart a little bit, but on the whole I was pleased with the performance.
“There were a lot of young boys who got some good experience, and the guys who started the game laid a lot of the groundwork.
“We made some unenforced errors again this week which disappointed us a bit, but they are areas we can resolve in the next two weeks.”
Having opened up with a 50-12 triumph over Nottingham the Falcons visit Galashiels this Friday before tackling Edinburgh at BT Murrayfield eight days later in their final pre-season outing.
Richards said: “We have a game against Gala on Friday and we will send up a strong side. A lot of the boys who played against Doncaster will be back in there and we then move on to Edinburgh away the following weekend.”
