Robinson locks in for four more years
The 28-year-old Durham University graduate has made 68 appearances for the Falcons, missing most of the 2018-19 campaign with a broken arm but returning for the last month of the competition.
Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “Sean is a player we rate extremely highly, and whose absence we felt during the season.
“He is an intelligent line-out caller who understands the game, he is a threatening ball-carrier and is exactly the type of player upon whom we can build our game over the coming years.”
Robinson said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge of getting the club back to where it belongs.
“I’ve been here for five years now, Newcastle Falcons has always been my professional club and I was lucky enough to get my opportunity here.
“It’s not been a great year for myself in terms of injury but that’s behind me now, and for the club it has obviously been a difficult season with getting relegated.
“No player wants to be involved in that, but from a personal point of view I’m really excited about the challenge of firstly getting us back into the Premiership, and from there making us a club who are regularly competing in and around that top six to top four.
“That’s the ultimate ambition for me as a player and the squad as a whole, and I want to be part of the group that makes it happen.”
Confident that the Falcons can look forward to a big future despite dropping down a division this coming season, Robinson said: “We’re going to have a very strong core of players in the Championship.
“Inevitably we will lose a few, but with the boys that we’ve signed and the guys who are committed to staying around, we’ve got a squad which is capable of bouncing straight back and then competing strongly in the Premiership, which is obviously where our sights are.
“That’s not to say we’ll be taking the Championship lightly in any respect. We’ll be up against good teams and good players this coming season, and nothing will be easy. There’s plenty of talent there, but we make no bones about the fact that a club of this size needs to be playing Premiership rugby, and not just playing to survive there.”
