Robinson Ready For Tigers Test
As Newcastle Falcons look ahead to Saturday’s game away to Leicester Tigers, Lock Sean Robinson believes his team have the best possible preparation for a return to Aviva Premiership rugby after their 29-5 European Rugby Challenge Cup victory over Connacht.
“Last weekend was a really positive result for us, and gives us a positive mindset going into Saturday’s game,” said Robinson. “Getting a win builds confidence and that’s going to really help us going back into the Premiership.”
As league re-starts go there are fewer bigger occasions than a bumper festive crowd at Welford Road, but Robinson believes it’s one the Falcons are geared up for.
“Obviously it’s a very exciting challenge for us. You expect to go down there, where it’ll be close to a full house but we’re excited for that.”
Having collected a man of the match accolade last weekend, the 24 year old has been catching eyes throughout the Premiership and beyond with a string of increasingly assured performances in the second row, but he believes there’s still more to come in the next part of the season.
“I’m happy with how I’m going so far this season; I’ve been lucky enough to work closely with the likes of Scotty Mac and Kane Thompson on line outs, and that’s giving me a lot of confidence to go out there and perform but obviously there’s still room for improvement.”
With Leicester currently sat at third position in the league table, for many outsiders the result of Saturday’s game is already decided, but Robinson believes there are no foregone conclusions.
“Many people will be writing us off but I think we’re more than capable of rising to the challenge this Saturday.
“Welford Road is a very tough place to go and Leicester Tigers are playing well at the moment, but if we put in the type if performance we did against Connacht.
“We’ve played already against most of what will be their team twice this season in the Kings of the North competition so have a good idea of what to expect. There were a few internationals to come back in but we were in the same position.”
