SAULL READY FOR SAINTS CHALLENGE
The former Saracens man, 25, who made the switch to the North East last summer, believes the Falcons are more than ready for the visit of Jim Mallinder’s men this weekend.
Speaking in the tunnel following the heartbreak of losing to the Londoners in the dying embers of the contest, Saull said: “After the last two weeks against Bath and Quins I feel that we can take on any side in this league on our day so bring on the Saints.
“No one likes coming to Kingston Park at any time of the year, and despite the disappointment of the Quins game, we are now all focussed on the visit of Northampton.
“We just need to learn how to see out games and that is what separates the top teams from the bottom, and it’s all about having the composure, belief and confidence to make sure that we take the wins.”
Reflecting on the Falcons’ courageous display in the capital, the ex-England Saxon admits his side’s first-half performance coupled with ill-discipline proved costly.
“A couple of soft tries that we conceded early on was ultimately our downfall, but in the second half we showed massive improvements,” said Saull.
“To be leading with five minutes to go and then to concede two late penalties to lose the game was hard to take as we felt that we could take the win against Quins.
“Our scrums were one of the dominant features of the game, and off the back of our solid scrums we won three penalties in quick succession in the early stages of the second half to get us back into the match.
“We had a bit of a telling off at half-time and with 30 minutes to play we thought that we had a chance of taking the points away,” he added.
