For potential apprentice providers:
Apprenticeships are an established route for young people to gain qualifications and workplace experience which will move them towards an employed role at work.
Schools are beginning to engage with the apprenticeship programme because of the wide range of benefits it could bring the school. Several of the benefits ate outlined below.
The schools benefit from a well-trained and motivated member of staff.
• It is cost effective
• It increases the capacity for them to deliver
• It provides a unique learning environment for the apprentice
• Good PR
• It supports a talented young person to develop and to “blossom”
Key Facts about Apprenticeships
Apprenticeships are about learning on the job. The Government will pay for all training costs incurred by the employer and provider if the person is employed for at least 30 hours a week at least £2.65 per hour (16-19 age group) and at the NMW (if you are 19+). The public purse (through the Skills Funding Agency) will pay for the delivery of all training aspects of the framework. This funding cannot be used to pay or subsidise the wage of the apprentice although there is a grant of £1500.00 available for eligible apprentices Apprenticeships are not time driven – they take as long as they take and cannot be delivered over a set time period.
Apprenticeships are not set by the academic year – they are roll on roll off, so if you are a school or business interested in taking on an apprentice please contact emily.oconnor@newcastle-falcons.co.uk
