The Hawick native spent four seasons as a player with the Falcons after joining in 2012, making 61 appearances before going on to join the coaching team in 2016.

Capped 24 times by Scotland in a playing career which also saw him starring for Border Reivers, Edinburgh, Llanelli Scarlets and Kobelco Steelers, MacLeod insists he will take positive memories from his time on Tyneside.

“I’ve enjoyed my 11 years at Newcastle Falcons, both as a player and coach, and I wish the club all the best going forward,” he said.

“Our line-out has consistently been in the top four in the Premiership during my time here and we’ve made some great progress there, but things move on and that’s just the nature of professional sport.

“We’re currently second in the Premiership line-out stats this season, and I’m determined to go out on a high with two huge games against Northampton and Sale over the next couple of weeks.”

Chairman of rugby Matt Thompson said: “I would like to thank Scott for his great contribution – initially as a player and then on the coaching team.

“He is a fantastic character who can be proud of the work he has done here, and I wish him every success for the future.”
