Scottish International Cusack joins Falcons
Newcastle Falcons have strengthened their Tighthead options for the remainder of the 2015/16 season with the addition of Doncaster-born Scotland International Prop Mike Cusack from Glasgow Warriors.
Having lost Scottish international Jon Welsh to injury against Bath in January, injury to Paddy Ryan and knee surgery for Scott Wilson, Cusack has been drafted to add further depth to the club’s Tight Head roster, which already includes internationals Taione Vea and Kensuke Hatakeyama.
A powerful operator in the set piece, Cusack has made a total of 48 Pro 12 appearances for Glasgow to date, since joining the Scotstoun based club in the summer of 2011 with 35 of these starts.
The Doncaster born prop was part of the Scotland squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup, earning two caps during the side’s warm up matches against Ireland and Italy and also brings experience of the Aviva Premiership, having made 24 appearances for Yorkshire Carnegie (then Leeds) from 2003 to 2008.
Speaking of the new signing, Falcons Director of Rugby Dean Richards said: “We’re delighted to have Mike join us for the rest of this season and provide us with another quality option at tight head.”
“He has a wealth of experience, having played Premiership, Pro 12 and Champions Cup rugby and will be a valuable addition to our squad.”
“We have been unfortunate to lose Jon and Scott until the end of the season and we are thankful to Glasgow for allowing Mike to join us.”
