Singha Premiership 7s – One month to go
The Singha Premiership Rugby 7s are less than one month away, with excitement beginning to build for the annual summer jamboree of skills, speed and tries.
Leicester Tigers, Sale Sharks and Worcester Warriors will battle it out along with the Falcons to qualify for Finals night at the Twickenham Stoop on August 28th.
The Falcons are aiming to defend an exceptional record in the group stage of the tournament, having won every round they have played in and will be determined, to protect this proud record on their home pitch.
In the 2014 tournament, hosted by Darlington Mowden Park’s Northern Echo Arena, the Falcons were unbeaten over the course of the evening, scoring 67 points with a crowd of over 7,000 fans enjoying the games.
Featuring heavily throughout the 2014 competition, Tom Catterick captained the club’s Seven’s team and is hopeful that its proud record can be maintained.
“We’d like to go on and win it on our home patch and then look to push on in the finals. It’s nice to get out there early on and get a bit of a blow on and it gives you an edge when the season starts.”
Simon Hammersley, who made an early breakthrough into the 15 a side team, partly as a result of an impressive performance in Darlington is meanwhile excited by the style of game that should be offered by the Kingston Park 3G pitch.
“It’s almost tailor made for 7s, it will be a very face pace of game that should throw up some good rugby. It’ll be bloody tiring, but it will be entertaining.
With an earlier kick off and the France v England world cup warm up game screened live in the stadium bars post Sevens, the tournament offers an afternoon and evening of rugby on what will hopefully be a warm summers day.
Tickets are on sale now, priced at £5 for Under 16s and from £10 for adults. To book yours, click here call 0871 2266060 or visit the Kingston Park box office during office hours.
