SKIPPER WELCH GETS FUNDRAISER OFF TO A FLYER
Andrew Walker, whose career at Sintons spanned 30 years, lost his battle with cancer in July 2013 aged 54. Mr Walker and his family received care and support from Macmillan following his diagnosis and a year of fundraising is planned which got off to a flying start thanks to the backing of Newcastle Falcons captain Will Welch.
“I’m pleased to be able to support Sintons in trying to achieve their goal of raising money to help such a great cause,” said Welch.
“The help, support and care that Macmillan provides for many people through such difficult times is unbelievable, and I’m glad that I have the opportunity to help Sintons in any way possible.
“I’m sure they’ll do an excellent job and it’s great to be a part of it,” he added.
Money raised will help fund a new Care Closer to Home pilot project for patients in the North East. The pilot which is due to launch this summer aims to provide chemotherapy to cancer patients closer to their homes. The service is being provided in partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, running from community settings.
