Socino keen to kick on

Having made a positive impression from the outset of his time with Newcastle Falcons, Juan Pablo Socino is looking to secure his place in the club’s starting line up going forward.

The former Rotherham man has already impressed fans and coaches alike since making the step up from Championship side Rotherham over the summer, and is keen to press on and make an impact on English Rugby’s top flight.

Refusing to be hampered by what he calls a “bad day at the office” against London Irish last Sunday, Socino has been back out on the Kingston Park pitch for his usual daily kicking practice every day last week.

Reflecting on last weekend’s disappointing result, the Argentine said: “We played well but there is still work to be done. We need to make sure we take the chances we’re creating because I don’t want to be here in a couple of weeks’ time talking about good performances but narrow losses.”

Despite making an immediate impact after moving to the North East this summer, 26 year-old Socino has noticed the difference in moving up to the Aviva Premiership: “In comparison to the Championship, the Premiership is a much quicker game meaning there are fewer margins for error, but I have thoroughly enjoyed my two games so far.”

Making his league debut for the Falcons away to Leicester Tigers on the opening weekend of the season, the versatile back said: “I was over the moon to start in the first two games of the season. It has been my dream to play in the Premiership and so I’m really happy that the efforts I’ve been showing have been enough to get that jersey.”

Having put in valiant performances in both of their league fixtures so far this season, Newcastle Falcons will be looking to continue to capitalise on their opportunities this Sunday when they welcome reigning Aviva Premiership champions Northampton Saints to Kingston Park.

The full interview with Socino, including details of how he is finding the North East so far, will appear exclusively in the match day programme for this Sunday’s match against Northampton Saints.

Tickets for the game, which kicks off at 2pm, are available [online][1], from the Falcons’ 24 hour Ticket Hotline on 0871 226 6060 or in person from the club’s East Stand Ticket Office starting from only £15 for adults.
