Socino salutes fan backing ahead of Wasps
Falcons centre Juan Pablo Socino says his team mates are looking forward to playing at a busy Kingston Park on Friday evening, eager to put last weekend’s match at Exeter in the past with a positive performance.
Over 5000 tickets have already been sold for Friday nights Aviva Premiership encounter against Wasps, with a noisy and passionate support set to give the players a lift during the game.
The last time this campaign was used, Socino did his best to encourage the supporters to raise the roof, scoring an excellent try which recorded a roar of 118 decibels, helping his side to a 20-10 win over Gloucester.
For the centre, that audible response from the fans is a pleasing bonus to putting into a good performance.
“It’s pleasing to hear the supporters respond when I do something in the game, though it’s not necessarily something that I am planning on doing. I just go onto the pitch trying to do my best, be that making a break, scoring some tries, making good tackles and good decisions, and if that helps make the game more enjoyable to the crowd and it helps the club in bringing more crowds to the game then I am well happy about that.”
“We’re looking forward to playing in front of our crowd; we enjoy it as it is a massive support for us that help us a lot.”
Now living his dream of being a professional rugby player at the highest level, the bond between supporters and team is an important relationship that the 26 year old is keen to nurture.
“I have a really good relationship with our fans. Away it is pretty much always the same group, so we have a good relationship with them and it is always nice to see them. When we are at home there are obviously more, but I try to get as close as I can to the guys.”
“I come from amateur rugby so it is massive for me to be close to them and to show them that we are normal people.”
Having played against Wasps earlier in the season, Socino is satisfied that the Falcons squad have developed from that game in September and are ready to correct the errors from last weeks loss.
“The team has grown a lot since September. We haven’t got as many wins as we wanted to but I think performance wise we have grown a lot, we are playing a lot better rugby, we are making smarter decisions and we run teams a lot closer.”
“It’s about time we start to get those wins on the backs of those performances and hopefully that will be the case this Friday. We should have a good crowd and the bigger the better. We want to give them the performance they deserve.
“A lot of the focus this week has been on us and getting our things right. We know we under-performed last week, and that by not getting our stuff right, we allowed Exeter to look even better than they played. Wasps will be tough, everyone in this league is a tough opponent, but if we put in a good performance and a one that we can be proud of we can get a result.”
