Squad announced for Premiership Rugby 7s Finale
Newcastle Falcons have made three changes to their squad for this Friday’s Premiership Rugby 7s series finale at the Twickenham Stoop following call ups to the XV man squad’s pre season fixture against Bayonne.
Sean Brown, Simon Hammersley and Lee Smith will all travel as part of a 25 man party to South West France and have been replaced in the 7s squad by Scott Lawson, Glen Young and James Christie.
Tom Catterick continues to captain the side following an impressive leadership display and all round game awareness in the Group D triumph at Darlington, while Andy Davies, Ben Morris, Brian Tuilagi Chris Harris, Dan Temm, and Tom Wilson will all be looking to keep their scoring form going.
After an impressive performance in their “home” group, the Falcons enter their fourth finals night in five years with an impressive record that has seen them win every one of their group stage games to date.
With their forward based game plan paying dividends last week, head coach Laycock is hopeful of making a further progress in the competition when his side take on Newport Gwent Dragons in the quarter final stage at 19:15 on Friday evening.
“We’re looking forward to Friday and giving things a go to see where we can finish in the tournament. We have the core of the team who did so well in Darlington with some quality additions replacing the three of the guys will be over in Bayonne.”
“It’s great news for Sean (Brown), Simon (Hammersley) and Lee (Smith) because it is what this is about, helping players progress with their rugby.”
“We have been working with the replacements already with the possibility of call ups in mind, so hopefully it should not disrupt things too much.”
