ST OSWALD’S CHARITY NIGHT
With support from representatives at the Falcons and Newcastle United Football Club, the night is quickly gathering momentum. Local jazz singer Jason Isaacs will provide live entertainment alongside an auction hosted by the Magpies goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman.
Every two minutes, someone in Britain is diagnosed with cancer. Yet we never think it will happen to us, right? Right up to the moment it hits you like a freight train; you or someone you love, has cancer. A million and one things rush into your mind in an instant; but the overriding thought is who will be there to care?
This is where St Oswald’s Hospice Newcastle, steps in. Founded in the early 1970s, St Oswald’s has been providing invaluable care for people in the North East with life limiting illnesses. The outstanding team at St Oswald’s work collectively to provide ‘holistic, multi-disciplinary care which meets physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs.’
Organizer of the charity night Jess Rea said: “After losing my grandfather to cancer this year, I was inspired by the dedication, love and compassion of those caring for him at the Hospice. What’s more, I was astounded to discover that each year the facility costs £10million to run; £6.5million of which come directly from charitable donations and fundraising. Spurred on by this and gratitude to the hospice, I set about pulling together a fundraiser so I could to give something back.”
