Stats preview: London Irish away

Tuesday 29 November 2022 Written by: Adam

Last Friday’s 24-21 victory over Exeter Chiefs and their 27-21 triumph away to Gloucester have taken the Falcons up to ninth in the table.

The last time Newcastle won three in a row in the league was in December 2020, which was also the last time they claimed two successive away wins, against Bath and Wasps.

London Irish have won one of their last eight in the Gallagher Premiership, although the Falcons are still searching for their first victory at Gtech Community Stadium after losing on both of their previous visits.

Newcastle’s only Premiership victory away to London Irish since 2009 was 20-15 at Madejeski Stadium on December 30, 2017, but the Falcons have been firing recently.

Fly-half Brett Connon has been successful with his last 10 kicks at goal, kicking 100% during the recent victories over Gloucester and Exeter.

Hooker George McGuigan is joint second in the Premiership twy-scoring charts after dotting down seven times, while club-mate Mateo Carreras has scored six times in six games – only four players having scored more.

Full-back Elliott Obatoyinbo beat more defenders than any other player in the league last weekend, with the former Saracen having last week announced a permanent deal to remain at Kingston Park.
