Still Time To Bid On The Legends Silent Auction

Tuesday 06 October 2015 Written by: Adam

Last Friday saw former players from across the world come together for the fantastic Falcons Legends game at Kingston Park Stadium.

At the centre of the game was a drive to raise funds for three causes close to the heart of the rugby community; the Falcons Community Foundation, Wooden Spoon and the Bill McLaren Foundation.

Part of those fund raising efforts is a special silent auction, with prizes still available to bid for until 5pm on Friday.

Read on for details of the prizes available and email any bids to andy.buist@newcastle-falcons.co.uk before 5pm on Friday, 9th October.
Prizes

– **Bill McLaren’s Big Sheet – 1991 Rugby World Cup Final (Reserve £2,500)**

Bill McLaren, the renowned Voice of Rugby for 50 years believed in preparation, preparation, preparation! He’d spend 40 hours in the week leading to each game preparing his famous big sheet -usually containing around 1000 facts about the teams, their playing record against each other and any special fact that no one other than Bill would know. He loved research and was the “go to person” before computer records became the norm. He was using cut and paste techniques with sellotape -the leading edge technology of his day, cutting info from his last sheet in to his new sheet for the next game. This 1991 RWC final sheet has some of the great players of that era from England and Australia and is a fine example of his work. The 1991 final played at Twickenham was the first RWC in the Northern Hemisphere and was between 2 powerful sides in Australia and England, with Australia just sneaking it in the end. This wonderful piece of sporting memorabilia has been embellished by some photos of the game including a photo of Nick Farr-Jones the captain and David Campese lifting in triumph the William Webb Ellis trophy. This is a limited edition sheet and a “must” for sports memorabilia collectors. This limited edition Big Sheet will be signed by Nick Farr-Jones & Michael Lynagh.
