With the rugby union season well underway there are still a number of months until Newcastle Thunder commence their 2016 Kingstone Press League One season.

Fans don’t have that long to wait to watch the 13-man game live at Kingston Press Stadium though as Thunder welcome Super League side Widnes Vikings to Newcastle next weekend.

Taking place on Saturday 9th January, Thunder’s first outing under new coaching team Mick Mantelli, Michael Heap and Mike Grady will give supporters to see the new-look Thunder in action against their sternest opposition yet.

For Widnes Vikings it will be their first visit to the North East since beating Salford Red Devils 38-16 at St James’ Park during last year’s RFL Magic Weekend.

With over 1,000 tickets for this game already sold the match promises to be an atmospheric and exciting afternoon.

Tickets are still available to buy, priced at £10 for adults, £7 for concessions and £5 for Under 16s and can be booked by clicking [here][1] or calling 0871 2266060.
