Tag rugby festival docks at Westoe thanks to Port of Tyne
End of programme rugby festivals have been the key focus for the Falcons Community Foundation over the past week, as the children it has engaged with have come together to celebrate the sport.
One of the largest took place on Thursday 9th July when the Port of Tyne tag festival was held at Westoe RFC’s Wood Terrace ground.
A culmination of the Port of Tyne tag rugby project that has taken place across South Shields, over 15 teams from four schools were in attendance.
The festival saw over 100 children from Marine Park, Forest View, Sea View and Mortimer Primary all take part in a full afternoon of tag rugby on an energetic afternoon oversaw by the Foundation’s coaches.
Director of the Foundation Melanie Magee said “This is the second year we have delivered a Tag Rugby programme thanks to the support of Port of Tyne and it has grown after a successful first year.”
“We aim to motivate, educate and inspire via the power of sport and the support of Port of Tyne allows us to really deliver on those goals in and around South Tyneside.”
