The Tonga scrum-half ran out at the home of Newcastle United for a sold-out encounter against New Zealand’s All Blacks just over two years ago, and could do so again when ‘The Big One’ pits his Newcastle Falcons side against Northampton Saints in Aviva Premiership action.

Tickets for the 5.30pm kick-off are now on sale, Takulua revealing he heard about the news while on tour with his national side.

He said: “I saw the news about the St James’ Park game on the club’s twitter while I was out in Romania, and I was buzzing about it to be honest.

“Everyone here wants to play in Newcastle United’s stadium and I am one of the lucky ones who have already had that privilege, so to get the chance to do it again would be incredible.”

The Big One will be preceded by a 3pm encounter between Newcastle University and Northumbria on a huge day of rugby for the region, with adult tickets starting from just £10 and juniors from £5.

“The atmosphere for our World Cup game against the All Blacks was amazing,” said Takulua.

“It’s a great venue and I just hope I get picked to have some involvement on the day. I know it’s just step by step and as a player you don’t think beyond the next game, but it’s definitely something the boys are excited about.

“We love Kingston Park which is so fantastic in a lot of ways, but St James’ Park for a big occasion like this will be special. Just the way the noise travels round the place is really something I’d never experienced until the World Cup, it was an amazing experience and to play there for Newcastle in front of a good crowd in March would be right up there.”
