The 34-year-old Samoan international joined the Falcons in 2014 but made just one Aviva Premiership appearance this season after battling with injury.

Director of rugby Dean Richards said: “We wish Kane all the best for his return to New Zealand. He is a talented footballer with a good understanding of the game, and hopefully now after a difficult year with injury he can take advantage of this fresh start.”

The Falcons have already bolstered their second-row options for next season with the signings of Canadian international Evan Olmstead, Scotsman Andrew Davidson and American Nick Civetta, while current second-row forwards Calum Green, Will Witty and Glen Young have recently signed new deals to stay with the club.

Mouritz Botha and Sean Robinson remain on the books for next term, the latter having undergone a shoulder operation at the end of the season, while England Under-18s pair Max Davies and Josh Williams have recently signed their first professional deals.
