Powerful prop Scott Wilson, fly-half Craig Willis and second-row Glen Young have all agreed deals that will keep them at the club until 2015.

Wilson, 19, who signed a professional deal ahead of the 2012-13 campaign, has made eight appearances for the Falcons first team this term, including two starts in the British and Irish Cup in what is his first year as a full time pro.

The Scottish-born youngster first became involved with the Falcons Academy aged 14, having previously thrown the discus for the Scottish Schools Athletics Team.

He was a member of the Northumberland School of Rugby and Falcons Elite Player Development Group prior to attending Sedbergh School for his A Levels.

Wilson has represented England at Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-20s level, qualifying for the Red Rose shirt by virtue of his English mother.

“I have enjoyed every moment of my time at the Falcons so far, and I am very much excited at what lies ahead for me at the club,” said Wilson.

He added: “It has been great to get a string of games under my belt this season, and I am now keen to push on and try and establish myself in the first team.”

18-year-old Willis signs on the back of a series of strong performances for Durham School and the Falcons Under-18s this year.

The Billingham-born No.10 represented the North of England Under-18s this season, and having previously played for the Falcons Under-16s and Under-18s sides, Willis made his senior debut in last Monday’s A Team clash with Northampton Wanderers at Percy Park.

A robust defender with impeccable distribution, Willis joins the production line of academy fly-halves which has produced international stars such as Jonny Wilkinson, Dave Walder, Phil Godman and Toby Flood.

Willis said: “I am really pleased to have signed the contract, and my aim is to now climb up the ladder and take every opportunity.

“It has always been my dream to play for Newcastle Falcons, and I actually played for Billingham Under-8s at Kingston Park 10-years-ago during half-time in a tag festival.”

Scottish Borders-based Glen Young, also 18, has been snapped up on a two-year-deal. Hailing from Jedbergh, Young has been playing for Jed Forest in the Scottish National League this season.

The rangy lock-forward has played in all of the Falcons Under-18s matches this campaign and has enjoyed several appearances for the ‘A’ Team earlier this term.

Standing at 6ft 6” tall, Young has a bright future ahead of him with his two cousins already part of the Scotland Sevens set-up.

Young said: “There is a really good atmosphere at the club and I am looking forward to the challenge of progressing through the ranks at Kingston Park.

“Mark Laycock and James Ponton have been great in developing my game both on and off the field.”

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards said: “We are delighted to secure the services of three more talented individuals, who now have a fantastic opportunity ahead of them.

“This is further good news following yesterday’s announcement that we have signed-up Zach Kibirige, George McGuigan and Ollie Hodgson.”
