TIPUNA – “It’s Good To Be Back

Thursday 02 October 2014 Written by: Adam

Tipuna got himself onto the score sheet with a try on the cusp of half time and showed plenty of energy and pace in his performance and after missing out on the start of the season through injury is looking to compete for the 9 jersey on a regular basis.

“It was frustrating to be out injured so soon after I arrived but it’s good to be back in the game again. I didn’t want to be out for too long because when you have players like Mike and Warren, they can make the jersey that you want yourself their own, so it’s good to be back.”

“I hope I can get back in the team again, there is a good competition between the three of us but featuring again is certainly the plan.”

Looking back on the trip to Wasps, the New Zealander harbours mixed feelings about his starting debut.

Tipuna said: “For me personally last Sunday’s game went OK. There are things I need to work on but I was happy enough for my first start – as happy as I could be without a win.”

“The try was just down to the guys in front of me doing really good work. They carried the ball three or four times, got well over the gain line and it just opened up for me so it was more down to our forwards carrying than to me.”

With Rob Baxter’s Exeter the next visitors to Kingston Park, Tipuna believes that he and his team mates are close to kick starting their Aviva Premiership campaign.

“Things are coming definitely coming together, we just need consistency of performance. Recently we’ll get something wrong one week and then fix that but something else will slip so it’s just getting our complete game which we haven’t managed to do yet. We are really close but there’s still work to be done.”

“It’s about the small margins and on Sunday, one of those that will be in our favour will be a noisy home crowd who have been in great form at the last two games and will hopefully be there again to give the team a lift.”
