Two more seasons for Tom Penny
The 27-year-old Northumbrian has made 72 appearances after coming through the Falcons’ academy, with director of rugby Dean Richards delighted to have retained his services.
“Tom is a big talent who has played really well for us over a number of years now, and it’s great news that we have kept him on board,” said Richards.
“He’s a homegrown lad who has come through our system, he offers us a number of options in the back line and he has adapted really well to playing at full-back on a much more consistent basis.
“As well as his playing ability he’s a great character around the place and a positive influence on the squad, and I look forward to seeing his continued contribution towards the growth of the club.”
Penny, who has played 18 times this season, said: “It was a very easy decision for me.
“I’m really happy to re-sign here, it’s my boyhood club and this will be something like my tenth season with the Falcons.
“I love the club, I love the boys and it was a very simple call when I was given the opportunity to sign for another two seasons. I used to come and watch the games at Kingston Park when I was a kid, and to be pulling on the Falcons’ shirt now as a player is really special.
“I had a short spell at Harlequins which gave me a slightly different perspective on things, and it’s always interesting to see other set-ups and ways of operating. I love what we have here at Newcastle, and I’m excited about remaining part of things.”
