U9s and U10s fly high at Falcons festival
The biggest crowd at Kingston Park Stadium for nine years came in no small part through the fantastic support from the junior sections of grassroots clubs.
Teams from across the region combined for the seasonal Under 9s and Under 10s pre-match festival ahead of the match against Leicester Tigers, with 750 junior players taking part.
Ran by the award-winning Falcons Community Foundation, the festival saw teams from as far afield as Alnwick, Whitehaven and Whitby play a range of games across the complex, including the main pitch.
Offering an opportunity for the participants to play fun games against clubs from outside their local areas, the first big festival of the season offered an exciting opportunity for the clubs to renew old friendships and forge new.
All attendees received also received a ticket that allowed them to watch the vast array of talent on display in both teams and be part of the exceptional atmosphere generated by 10,100 fans.
A key part of the club’s engagement with grassroots clubs and work to grow the game across the region, match day festivals take place across the season, with age groups from U7s to Colts all represented.
Supported by other events including sevens tournaments, veterans festivals and university rugby, pre-match experiences like Sunday help provide a season long engagement with players from far and wide.
